Daily Harvest has been a secret dream come true for me. I say secret because it took me a long time to admit I'm not good at (a) smoothie recipes, both creating or following; (b) going to the grocery store and buying all the ingredients I actually need for a great smoothie recipe; or (c) using all those ingredients before they go bad.
Once I realized that cooking wasn't a strength of mine (nor was meal-prepping), and that maybe that was okay, I started casually day-dreaming about what it would be like to have a pre-made smoothie each day. But, because of where I live, my options for on-the-go smoothies are limited. There isn't a juice bar to stop through on the way to the gym. (There isn't a juice bar, period.) So, I started to search online.
At first, I was looking for juice deliveries. I'm not sure if I thought this was the "healthiest" alternative -- or just the more likely option to find for delivery -- but I never even considered smoothies at first. I looked at Project Juice, RAW Generation, Pressed Juicery, and RASA Juice Shop. Some didn't deliver, some included a few too many ingredients I just wouldn't eat, and none of the options I found fit everything I was looking for.
Enter: Daily Harvest.
I don't know what made things click but eventually I swapped my juice focus for a smoothie focus and one quick search into Google plopped Daily Harvest into my life. I put in my first monthly box almost immediately (they clearly spoke to me) and received it at my doorstop one week later.
(Note: I quickly added a task in Asana -- the task management software I use -- so that I can make changes to my delivery schedule, pause a delivery, and swap smoothies in the future before the deadline. I also wanted to make sure that if I didn't want to receive another box then I would remember to cancel my account as a whole before another shipment.)
Now that I've been receiving this super convenient delivery for many months, I'm excited to share with you my initial (and updated) thoughts on Daily Harvest Smoothies. And, I'm even more excited to share a coupon for $25 off in case you'd like to try a box yourself!

What is daily harvest
Healthy foods delivered to your doorstop is the easiest way to describe it. From smoothies to harvest bowls to soups and lattes, Daily Harvest is on a mission to bring "convenience without compromise". They deliver pre-portioned, frozen items to your home on a weekly or monthly basis.
what are the benefits of A smoothie delivery
According to Daily Harvest, smoothie deliveries have a lot of benefits. And mostly because those smoothies are delivered frozen. Here's what they say!
+ Blueberries have 200% more vitamin C when frozen vs fresh after 3 days
+ Cauliflower has 50% more antioxidants frozen vs fresh after 3 days
+ Spinach has 25% more vitamin E frozen vs fresh after 3 days
Specifically, Daily Harvest claims to harvest fruits and veggies at peak ripeness and quickly freeze said goodies to retain nutritional value, flavor, and texture.
The other benefits? Convenience. You literally grab a pre-portioned smoothie out of the freezer, add in your desired liquid, and blend. It's that simple.
MY FIRST BOX
Might as well as start at the beginning for this Daily Harvest Smoothie Review and let you know what it was like ordering my first box. I decided to start with a monthly box of 24 smoothies. I didn't want weekly orders because that felt like too much to remember and manage.
(Note: You can manage your subscription and deliveries in your account without having to call or email anyone. However, at the time of writing, you need to make changes to a box the Saturday before a delivery is scheduled. Which means, if you have a weekly subscription, you must remember to make desired changes each week.)
When choosing what to fit in my box, I kept it to only smoothies and one matcha latte. This is simply because it's why I wanted something delivered in the first place: I was looking for an easier way to fit veggies and nutrient-dense fruits into my daily diet. (I wasn't looking for alternative dessert options or meal replacements.) I used this information to help influence my actually smoothie choices since I wasn't looking for anything to be super rich, sweet, or even savory.
Here's my first box of 24:
6 Acai + Cherry Smoothie
5 Apple + Greens Smoothie
5 Ginger + Greens Smoothie
4 Strawberry + Peach Smoothie
2 Blueberry + Hemp Smoothie
1 Banana + Greens Smoothie
1 Matcha + Lemongrass Latte
Let's dive in!
Apple + greens
Here's what Daily-Harvest says about the combo: "Our classic blend is filled with dark leafy greens for detoxification, citrus for alkalinity, celery for hydration and balance, and turmeric and ginger for circulation and anti-inflammation."
First go with water: It tasted... clean.
I'll order it again because I think this is one of those flavors that gets better over time. In other words, my palette needs an adjustment period and this was okay-enough that I'm willing to put in the work to love it. That being said, next time I will use less water.
(I filled water up till the level of the ingredients, not the top of the cup, and it was still too much water. I think adding water also over-emphasized the cucumber, and I'm not a big fan of cucumber water.)
Pro-tip: Try coconut water. Consider adding either strawberries or blueberries. You may also want an extra shot of lemon and ginger, especially if you're hoping to taste these strong flavors rather than the cucumber or celery.
Strawberry + peach
Here's what Daily-Harvest says about the combo: "Strawberry and peach give it its classic fruit flavor, and oats and flax seeds provide fiber to keep you full and happy all day. Did you know that goji berries contain more iron than spinach and have the highest protein content of any fruit?"
First go with water: It tasted... delicious!
Refreshing, light, summer-esque. Even my husband, who claims all good things are ruined by "health", drinks this whenever he can. It's a family favorite that we could drink with water alone all day everyday.
Pro-tip: Try coconut water or fresh squeezed OJ, or both. Consider adding a hint of lemon, too!
Ginger and greens
Here's what Daily-Harvest says about the combo: "While it may sound too good to be true, this thick and velvety, not-crazy-sweet, perfectly zingy blend does it all. With stomach-soothing ginger, apple cider vinegar, mineral-dense spinach, and avocado, it's the hero your taste buds deserve."
First go with water: It tasted... sharp.
I was neutral on this one the first time. (Which was a bummer because I thought it would be an instant favorite.) I didn't hate it. I didn't love it. The taste of both the apple cider vinegar and the ginger are strong, which I am okay with by itself, but the after taste sits on the tongue just a tad too long.
Pro-tip: Use coconut water. Add blueberries and LOTS of lemon. (It balances out the ginger.) Consider adding collagen powder for an extra punch.
ACAI + Cherry
Here's what Daily-Harvest says about the combo: "Fresh berries are yet another reason why we're always living for summer. But this multi-berry blend gives us that fresh-picked taste year round, with sweet cherries, blueberries, raspberries and a hearty dose of glow-inducing acaí berries, for a smoothie high in antioxidants and Omega 3's. Plus, we've added some kale in for good measure - but trust us, you won't even notice it's there."
First go with water: It tasted... SUPER CHERRY (and, frankly, awesome).
Of course, this is a cherry smoothie. But it was REALLY cherry. I would drink this one again with just water added, but adding in lemon juice and coconut water definitely mellowed out the cherry flavor allowing everything to shine better together.
Pro-tip: This actually became my favorite smoothie of the bunch, especially after adding lemon juice and using coconut water as the liquid base. (Update: I order more of this smoothie than any other - I can't get enough!)
Blueberry + hemp
